Installing Polycarbonate Fixing Buttons Like a Pro

Polycarbonate fixing buttons can be an effective way to fit polycarbonate sheets together, but how well do you know how to install them correctly or like a pro?

This is where Varico and this blog comes in.

In this article, we will explore how to install polycarbonate fixing buttons like an expert, including what they are and safety measures to take into account.

Let’s explore all you need to know about installing polycarbonate fixing buttons!

What is the Use of Fixing Buttons?

Polycarbonate fixing buttons are designed to fasten polycarbonate sheets down to a structure. This allows the polycarbonate sheets to expand and contract adequately, while also preventing them from lifting.

Fixing buttons can also provide additional fixing strength, particularly when it comes to improving the wind/snow capacity of the polycarbonate roof. Polycarbonate fixing buttons can be an easy and efficient way to secure polycarbonate sheets for DIY installations.

How Many Fixing Buttons are Needed?

At Varico, our polycarbonate fixing buttons come in packs of 10, however, the number of buttons that are needed can depend on a number of factors, including:

  • Sheet size

  • Location of installation

  • Roof structure

  • And more

Installation Process

Installing polycarbonate fixing buttons is simpler than it seems. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install our fixing buttons:

  1. Find a suitable fixing button that matches the colour of your glazing bars.

  2. Use a drill bit to drill a hole in your polycarbonate roofing sheets at the fixing locations. Holes should be approximately 2mm bigger than the fixing button shaft width.

  3. Remove the top cap of the fixing button, and leave to one side to use for later.

  4. Put the foam gasket onto the fixing cap and place it into the hole that you just drilled.

  5. (Optional) Use a suitable silicone sealant to seal around the hole in the polycarbonate sheet.

  6. Screw in using the fixings provided to firmly secure the button to the sheet.

  7. Snap the top cap from earlier back on to complete the installation.

Safety Measures

Now that you know how to install polycarbonate fixing buttons, safety during installation should be prioritised. In particular, the following safety precautions should be followed and considered:

  • Avoid over-tightening the screw as this may compromise the integrity of the polycarbonate sheet.

  • Follow installation instructions properly.

  • Use the appropriate polycarbonate fixing buttons for your specific project to ensure safe and suitable installation.

  • Use the drill bit properly and according to the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid injury.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety gloves and safety glasses.
